Governments and industries around the world have invested in acquiring data , but those datasets often go unpublished or unused. The Planet OS mission is to provide better access to the world’s public and commercially sold environmental data. By bringing digital data resources to the fingertips of the world’s governments, private enterprises, scientists and citizens, Planet OS wants to develop a planetary nervous system that’s capable of informing and motivating responsible action.
Our world is increasingly exposed to high risk, driven by externalities like unpredictable weather phenomena, climate change, changes in the air we breathe and water we drink. The world is also influenced by human activities like excessive manufacturing, energy production, waste generation, deforestation, overfishing and transportation.
Without much attention, humans have quietly started to wire up the natural world, creating a new, resilient Planetary Nervous System. It's born global, and it produces tremendous amounts of environmental data. And it's not only the government, it's the private sector, too.

That is why Planet OS has developed a new kind of search engine. A search engine that would be able to bring all of the world's public and commercially sold environmental data to the fingertips of the worlds governments, private enterprises and researchers to address the problems at hand.
This publicly available free service service is called Planet OS Exchange, think of like as the "Google" for Earth data.
Planet OS long-term vision is to be the index to the real world, driving sustainable decisions about the use of our natural resources, food, natural ecosystems, and everyone who lives in them. It is our duty to become the Operating System for the Planet Earth, and make it livable and safe for the generations to come using truth about our planet driven by modern data technology.
